[*BGF*] LAN Party 2006
Posted by [*BGF*]George on Sunday 12 November 2006
This weekend clan members converged on Northants for the [*BGF*] LAN Party 2006. We travelled from as far and wide as Holland, Scotland and Devon and we weren't disappointed with the copious laughs, drinking, gaming, lack of sleeping and chilli consumption. We even got special visits from our illustrious leadership!
A very special thank you goes to Captain Darling and NCB for organising an outstanding LAN which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Great LAN, and here's to the next one!

Server Down Update
Posted by [*BGF*]Storm on Wednesday 5 July 2006
Day 6 and sorry guys server is still down, and will be for the foreseeable future.
Digital intended to move the server from there current host to the new host at the weekend a maximum 3 hour downtime, however 4u server refused to release Digital's server's. Digital our server provider has now entered into legal action against 4U server's their host to have the server's returned. I have received absolutely no information regarding when this will be resolved so can give no indication as to when we might have a server again, once again sorry.

Day Of Defeat Source Summer Update Coming June 28
Posted by [*BGF*]Storm on Tuesday 27 June 2006
Valve's Popular WWII Online Action Game Approaches First Birthday
Bellevue, WA, June 22, 2006 - Valve® announced a Day of Defeat: Source Summer 2006 Update featuring a Free Map Pack is scheduled for release on June 28 via Steam to everyone who owns a copy of the game.
The Map Pack, which arrives just before DoD: Source's 1st birthday, introduces a new gameplay style, Detonation, in two brand new missions (Jagd, Colmar). In addition to the new missions and gameplay style, the Summer 2006 Update also introduces new technical features and gameplay enhancements to Day of Defeat: Source. Some of the new gameplay enhancements - such as spawn clip adjustments, improved hit location detection, and weapon balancing - were made after reviewing the player statistics gathered since the stats feature was added to DoD: Source earlier this year.

We have a new custom map on our server, it's a new map created by El-Capitan of Dodnetwork fame!!!!!!
Map Description
August 14th, 1942 - Mission Classified
Allied soldiers are trying to break through to Berlin on a classified mission. Unfortunately things have not gone to plan and the Allied troops get caught up in battle and end up being swept down the river.
They end up about 1 mile downstream towards the coast where they discover a hidden series of tunnels. They decide to raid the tunnels and make an attempt to capture the supplies before they send out to German U-Boats. The axis forces are not prepared for the attack.
Allied Objectives: Capture the main storage area, then the Supply U-Boat
Axis Objective: Defend the tunnels!
Map Information and History
I actually started this map back in Day of Defeat BETA 1.2 believe it or not! It was completely different then and even started off on a beach with moving search lights in the dark. I worked on it here and there over the years but never really committed to it. I'd made maps for TFC before the days of Day of Defeat but never got round to releasing any of them either! Then source came out.
I love the source engine, and seeing great custom maps for source coming out I just had to get something made! So, I pulled up the old dod_subterrainia files off my old computer and got mapping again. I decided to start the whole thing again from scratch. Everything has changed from the original designs, except the main concept and basic layout.
So, here it is. I look forward to playing it with everyone!

Welcome to DoD:Source and our new Source Site
Posted by [*BGF*]George on Wednesday 28 September 2005
Well I doubt it's gone unnoticed, but Day of Defeat Source is now released. No matter what you make of it it's here to stay and hasn't failed to impress! New beautiful graphics, audio and physics engine, amazing new weapons, rag doll models and textures, and of course resounding changes to gameplay.
Only four maps for now but it won't be long before a plethora of Source maps will be released, and no doubt a couple from our resident [*BGF*] map designers too.
So to celebrate the momentous release of Day of Defeat Source we've redesigned our website. The new Source site features an admin facility so we can better maintain it and new features such as Theme Preferences where you can select the theme you'd like to appear each time you return to the site.
Enjoy the game and the new website, if you have any questions please visit our forums and post any comments or questions you have about the site.

DoD:S preload in full swing!!!
Posted by Thistle on Saturday 17 September 2005
Things are heating up as the days and hours to launch count down on us, there maybe less content than we would have hoped i.e. lack of maps, the brits and possible weapon choice (time will tell on that one). But its shaping up nicely and looks like a quality production lets just hope it lives up to its expectations and does not let us down.
Plus there’s not many companies out there like valve that update as regularly and has a community so eager to help out and add new content/maps etc
So things being the way they are and going from past experience the future can only be bright for DoD.
"The preload for Day of Defeat: Source is in full swing now. There is still plenty of time for everyone to pre-load the game before it is made available on September 26th at 3:00 pm PDT. (If you're unsure of what time this is for you locally, you can convert to your local time zone here.)
We're also planning a release for next week that will update the Source engine to the same version used for Day of Defeat: Source. There are a number of small fixes contained in this release that we'll cover in detail when it's closer to release time.
Have a look at two more of the character models from Day of Defeat: Source -- the Allied bazooka class and the Axis sniper class:"

DoD:S is now available for pre-load and pre-purchase, which means the games finished and just waiting for release on the 26th. Lets just hope it lives up to its expectations and was worth the wait!
"Day of Defeat®: Source™, the latest version of Valve's popular WWII online action game, is available now for pre-load and pre-purchase. Day of Defeat: Source leverages the Source engine's advanced features such as high-dynamic range lighting, advanced graphics, and realistic physics simulation.

A Steam recap
Posted by Thistle on Wednesday 31 August 2005
This Steam Update recaps the release of Half-Life: Blue Shift via Steam earlier this week, mentioning that a follow-up release is planned over the next week or so to provide the high definition player & weapon models that accompanied the original version of the Half-Life expansion. They also offer a screenshot of an "Angry Axis Officer" (apparently pissed that someone replaced his weapon with an entrenching tool) from the upcoming release of Day of Defeat: Source, for which there is no firm release date, just a voluntary neck in this noose: "It's difficult for us to pin the exact date down right now, but rest assured it's not far off." Meanwhile 1UP reports they've gotten word from Valve on plans to release Half-Life (1) Deathmatch via Steam as well. They say the game's graphics will not be improved much for this release, though "the lighting will look superior thanks to the addition of some HDR effects, including blooming." This is a little confusing in light of the plans to introduce HDR in the high-end Lost Coast map, but presumably this will all be cleared up along the way. The story includes a list of 11 maps to be offered, and claims they'll have further details on all this soon. Here's the map list:
• Boot Camp
• Bounce
• Crossfire
• Datacore
• Frenzy
• Lambda Bunker
• Rapidcore
• Snarkpit
• Stalkyard
• Subtransit
• Undertow

In other news - HL2:Aftermath
Posted by [*BGF*]George on Tuesday 30 August 2005
Valve spills more beans on the return to City 17...
The guys n gals over at game spot have recently recieved exclusive footage of half life 2's new add on Aftermath. Designer/programmer Robin Walker was discussing some of the new elements and features in this up and coming project. This add-on will once again be based in City 17 with the plot lines picking up from where they left off at the end of HL2. Taking you once again into the mind of Gordon Freeman and witnessing first hand the repercussions of the actions you took at the end of hl2, the citadel is about to be destroyed in a way that will ultimatly spell doom forthe citys population.

"Many of the Half-Life 2 characters will be returning in some form or another, including Dog. In some cases, such as Alyx, those characters have learned new things that have interesting gameplay repercussions," said Robin Walker. "We will be doing what we usually do in these games, which is answering some old questions while raising new ones. Dr. Kleiner will be on hand with some informed opinions, as well as a bit of speculation. "
"The biggest regret we had about Half-Life 2 was that you didn't spend enough time with the major characters. Players spent small sections of the game with allies, and interactions with them were fairly constrained. As a result, this is the first challenge we set out to tackle in Aftermath."
Valve aims to have Aftermath finished and released by the end of the year.

DoD:S, September, 1st 2005?
Posted by [*BGF*]George on Tuesday 30 August 2005
Article translated from hlportal.de:
Today Valve sent us new pics of Day Of Defeat:Source. The first thing you notice, if you look at those pics, is the very nice grafic. Doug Lombardi told us that the new Day of Defeat will support High Dynamic Range(HDR) - of course only if your hardware is good enough. Also the sound is way better in Dod:S than before: As already in Counterstrike:Source, the bullets do now hit with 5.1 sound. Dod:Source will be released on September 1st, but not only via steam.
